NHL Rumors

hockey rumors

Hockey players and fans love to speculate about the future of their teams, but rumors often get a little out of hand. That’s especially true in this era of social media, where even a brief, unfounded story can quickly spread across the world.

Whether they’re speculation about a potential trade or a rumored coaching change, the latest NHL rumors are generating buzz around the league. In today’s NHL rumors rundown, the Maple Leafs activate an important defenseman from injury, Jonatan Berggren gets called up by the Red Wings and Patrik Laine appears to be close to making his return.

As the Red Wings continue to explore the trade market, it’s likely they’ll soon make a deal for Jonatan Berggren. The defenseman has been on the team’s radar for some time, but it’s unclear if Detroit GM Dave Lewis is ready to pull the trigger on a deal.

The Bruins could find themselves in a bit of a pickle with Jake DeBrusk this summer. The forward is in the final year of his two-year contract and he’ll be eligible for free agency if he doesn’t sign an extension with the club. NHL rumors have floated around that the Bruins may want to peddle him before the March 8 trade deadline or let him depart in a UFA free-agent deal this summer.

The Blackhawks’ decision to scratch Connor Perry during a game last week sparked plenty of debate in the hockey community about player safety and the need for more change at the NHL level. But the controversy boiled over when Blackhawks GM Rick Davidson held a press conference to address the situation, offering few new details and confirming that no family members were involved.

THN’s Karen Pauls spoke with junior layers and coaches about the controversy, which is sensitive for many who hope to one day wear the Team Canada jersey in international competition. “The culture in hockey is not the best, and it’s a shame to see that it’s gotten to this point,” said a 19-year-old forward with the Steinbach Pistons of the MJHL.

While some players are prone to getting cut by skate blades during games or practice, the number of NHL injuries that have occurred because of that is quite disturbing. Despite this, the NHL seems reluctant to do anything about it.
