Professional Hockey Players in Canada and the United States Wish to Participate in the World Series of Hockey
Hockey Canada is one of four international competitors in the ever-growing National Hockey League (NHL). The other competitors are the National Hockey League (NHL) and the Professional Hockey Leagues in North America (dancing and skating) and Europe (rugby and hockey tournaments). Hockey is the most popular sport in Canada, where nearly three-quarters of the population regularly goes to some sort of sporting event or the other. Many young people get interested in hockey because of hockey players like Wayne Gretzky, Mario Lemieux and others. They idolize these hockey stars and aspire to be like them one day.

It has won the past two world championships, the last one in 1999, and is one of four teams invited to participate in the IIHF world tournament this summer in Edmonton. It also is one of eleven teams that represent the Canadian Hockey League in the European Junior Cup. The other teams competing in the cup include Swedish Elite Ice Hockey, Finnish Division, Canadian Division, German Division, Russian Division and European Super Division.
The National Hockey League (NHL) was founded in response to the growing need for an inexpensive and continuous way of maintaining teams in different cities and towns across the United States. In contrast to the previous popular American professional hockey league, the Canadian professional hockey league offers a schedule that differs from that of its American counterpart. Unlike its American counterpart, the Canadian league allows for two games per week, as opposed to three, and it uses a single scoring format. For instance, a win may be scored as a three-for-three score or a five-for-five score. However, unlike the NHL, the Canadian amateur hockey association uses a point system to determine the results of games, with the winner being the team with the most points.
The International Ice Hockey Federation was created by the North American Professional Hockey Association (NAPHA) and the Canadian Sport Institute (CSI). Both associations are dedicated to the development and growth of hockey players in Canada and internationally. They work together to promote and provide support to hockey players in their country and overseas. The CSA and CSE conduct international events and have links to the Olympic Games, which Canada is also involved with.
Professional and aspiring hockey players in Canada and the United States wish to participate in world championships, but they lack sufficient funding to do so. In addition to the financial costs of travel and accommodation, attending a world championships requires a great deal of time, energy and commitment. Fortunately, the current governing body for hockey in Canada, the Canadian hockey league (CHL), has taken steps to help those players who wish to participate, by establishing the “Winnipeg Gold Cup” and “orf” tournaments for players from North America and abroad.
