Was the Long Term Strategy the Right One For the Islanders and Flyers?
The Hockey East is an international ice hockey league that exists mainly in New England. It is part of the NCAA’s Division I and plays in the Eastern Conferences. It organizes tournaments all across the country, and it is widely regarded as one of the toughest leagues in the world for the players. This is because the Hockey East is not like other minor leagues which are for amateurs only. It is also a bit tougher for players who aspire to be hockey players in the NHL.
The Hockey East has been playing a rough war with the Hockey League in recent years. This was due largely to the fact that the Hockey East was not giving the same level of support and playing opportunities to the hockey players of the league as they gave to the hockey players of the American and Canadian Universities. Many hockey players believe that the hockey system of the league is unfair, and it does not give equal opportunities to players who live in the East. The players feel that they have to fight for the same playing opportunities that players in other parts of the country enjoy.
In recent years, the Hockey East has been trying to change this perception and become better than its competition. They have organized many summer exhibition games against the other teams from the Atlantic Division and the Western Conference. These exhibition games give the fans of the league a chance to see the best hockey players in action and to see which college ice hockey conferences have the best players. This helps to build up the popularity of the league amongst the fans of the college ice hockey league.
There have been efforts by the Hockey East to improve its brand name and image. The marketing strategy that the organization has used so far is centered on television exposure. They have tried to create a name for the tournament and a set of nicknames for the players and coaches of the hockey league such as “the East” and “the Push.” Unfortunately, these nicknames and branding schemes haven’t been very effective as over time the fans of the hockey games have stopped seeing the names and have started to lose interest in the tournaments and the whole thing has become a complete embarrassment to the organization.
The Hockey East has worked hard to attract players from the other four major hockey conferences. However, for some reason, the players who live in the “East” or the “Northeastern” have chosen to ignore this fact and choose to play for teams from the “Atlantic Division.” Some of the players have even made it known that they would like to play in the “Atlantic Division” but only play for the “Hockey East.” It has been a major embarrassment for the Hockey East and a huge let down to the hockey fans in the maine. If the players and coaches of the Hockey East were not willing to put in the time and effort to put their team in position to compete for the Hockey East title each year, why should we as the fans? It’s time for the players in the east to realize that the fans are the life and soul of the hockey club and they need to treat them that way.
Right now the Boston Bruins is sitting in the series-clinching position with the Ottawa Senators and if things don’t change from here, the Bruins will win the division. Now it is up to the Islanders and Flyers to show what the fans expect to see. The Islanders have the personnel to defeat the hated Rangers in the first round of the playoffs and if they can win the first two games against the Rangers, they have a very good chance to eliminate the Flyers in the second round. Should the Flyers get eliminated in six or seven games, it will be the Isles turn to take on the Boston Bruins in the next round. Is it time for the Islanders and Flyers to ditch the past and play the game according to what the fans want to see?
